Emotional well being is about how we think, feel and behave. It is important that we look after our mental health just as we would our physical state. If we experience a physical ache or pain we would normally consult a doctor or specialist. Therefore, if we are experiencing episodes of stress, anxiety or feeling low we should consult a specialist in the relevant area. Your GP can be the first point of contact to talk about your mental health, however, there are specialist services that you may require and it might be useful to contact a Community Mental Team (CMHT) worker for this. CMHT’s are usually located at a hospital or local community mental health centre. Remember - You are not alone! One in five people in Northern Ireland will experience some form of mental illness at a point in their life. Most people can go on to make a full recovery; others learn to manage their mental health difficulties and can lead an active life.
