Switch off to tune in!

Register yourself or your school by completing the form below!

The Digital Detox Challenge encourages individuals, families and pupils to take meaningful breaks from non-essential screen use during the week. Not as a punishment, but as a chance to rest your minds, reconnect with others, and notice how digital habits affect wellbeing.

You can run the challenge over one day or the full week, and you’re are encouraged to seek sponsorship for their participation.

Switch off to tune in  and support Action Mental Health’s vital services for adults, children and young people across Northern Ireland.

What is a Digital Detox?

A digital detox is a commitment to intentionally reduce, limit, or eliminate the use of digital devices and technology like smartphones, computers, tablets, and social media platforms.

How can a digital detox improve your mental health?

  • Reduced Stress & Anxiety

Constant notifications, news updates, and social media comparisons overstimulate the brain. Stepping away gives your mind a break.

  • Better Sleep

Your brain encourages the production of a chemical called melatonin when it’s tired. The bright light behind your mobile phone screen keeps the brain alert, decreasing levels of this chemical and making it harder for you to fall asleep.

  • More time

Instead of scrolling on your phone, do something that you’ve been intending to do for a while. Clear out your wardrobe, try a new hobby, start a new book, or just take some time to yourself and practise some self- care.

Action Mental Health supports all ages in the area of mental health and emotional wellbeing through a range of activities tailored to suit group needs.

We operate across the whole of Northern Ireland. We will work with you and your school to ensure that your needs are met. Find out more about the services here
