SALUS News

Art compilationArt Competition

At the beginning of October Salus  staff contacted all schools in Fermanagh and Cavan asking them to submit artwork  around the theme of keeping positive mental health .  From all the entries St Mogues was selected as the winning school. The artwork from the  2nd year St Mogues students was regarded as of a very high standard but even more important were the  excellent messages behind the drawings.  Entries from the winners were on display at the launch of the Salus Project in Castle Saunderson in November.

Fermanagh/Cavan Youth Forum

The first meeting of our Salus Youth Forum took place on 19th November 2013. The forum is comprised of 4 members are from Cavan and 4 members from Fermanagh, ranging in age between 15 and 22 years.

The aim of the forum is to give young people a voice to influence improvements to cross border mental health service for young people.

Its purpose is to ensure that the Salus project uses the most effective approaches and practices to help young people living in the border regions to improve their ability to deal with stress or issues causing them concerns or anxiety.

At our first meeting, members were given the opportunity to take part in a ‘provoking thought ’workshop to get a flavour of the work the project is already carrying out in schools.  Members gave feedback on some improvements regarding layout of PowerPoint slides, exercises which could be included etc.  We look forward to continuing this work with forum members and ensuring they are very much part of the decision making process regarding our work with young people.
