Self-management entails both a positive mental attitude and positive actions that help you get on with living your life the way you want to. It involves knowing when to recognize the limitations that your condition has put in your life and meeting the challenge of living your life to the full in spite of them. These programmes were developed in Stanford University California by people with long term conditions or chronic pain for people with long term conditions or chronic pain.

Learning to manage your condition and / or pain will significantly improve your quality of life. The “Managing the Challenge” of living with a long term condition or managing pain courses will teach you skills to manage all aspects of life with a long term condition or pain.

These are courses that will help you manage your condition or pain more effectively. It will enable you to deal with pain, fatigue, anxiety and stress by giving you helpful techniques such as; exercise, relaxation, action planning, problem solving, better breathing techniques and by sharing experiences with others.

These courses are funded by the Western Health & Social Care Trust under license from the Self- Management Resource Centre California, via Talking Health Taking Action (THTA) and are managed and coordinated by AMH, supported by the Long Term Conditions Alliance Northern Ireland.

There is no cost for the training it is free to anyone that has a long term health condition or experiencing ongoing pain and is interested in learning new skills in self managing their condition or pain.

The courses run throughout the Western Health & Social Care Trust Area including , Limavady, Derry/Londonderry, Strabane, Omagh, Enniskillen and other locations in County Fermanagh.
